Thoughts: PAL Slashes Fares to Selected Destinations Up to 70% Off On-Site the 19th Travel Tour Expo

ETA:  I went to the Expo and found out that the ticket prices being offered by PAL only cover the base fare.  Thus, it excludes surcharges and taxes.  For a round trip ticket to Manila-Delhi, PAL quoted us USD 472 (base fare plus taxes and surcharges) plus USD 30 for the travel tax.

     Lifted from PAL's website:

Promos at TravelTour Expo
Visit the Philippine Airlines booth at the 19th TravelTour Expo and enjoy great discount on domestic and international tickets. The Expo runs February 17-19, 2012 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.
Promotional deals available during the TravelTour Expo:
  •     Up to 70% off on airfares on selected domestic and regional routes
  •     Up to 30% off on airfares on selected US/Canada routes
  •     A chance to win round-trip tickets to Las Vegas
  •     Other exciting surprises
These offers are only available at the Travel Expo site.
Visit philippineairlines.com/promos for other promos or call PAL Reservations in Manila: (02) 855-8888 for other inquiries.

Wondering which selected flights?  Domestic tickets will go as low as Php 555 and Php 777 one-way, depending on the destination and travel period, the farthest date being 15 August 2012.

For regional and international flights, prices for roundtrip, economy class tickets are as follows:

  •  US$30 to Bangkok and Singapore;
  • US$67 to Hong Kong, Macau and Saigon;
  • US$117 to Delhi; US$327 to Melbourne and Sydney;
  • US$337 to Honolulu; and
  •  US$507 to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Vancouver
I am actually interested with PAL's Delhi flights.  However, I am not sure if USD 117 is just for the base price exclusive of surcharges and taxes.  You see, it's around USD 360 for Delhi on surcharges and taxes alone, not including the Php 1620 travel tax.  I'd be really disappointed if USD 117 is just the base price.

Anyway, the details can be found here:
70% off on PAL tickets at Travel Expo

Meanwhile, roundtrip, economy class tickets will just be for US$30 to Bangkok and Singapore; US$67 to Hong Kong, Macau and Saigon; US$117 to Delhi; US$327 to Melbourne and Sydney; US$337 to Honolulu; and US$507 to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Vancouver.

Seat Sale: Philippine Airlines' ASEAN PAL Promo

I haven't checked out this promo yet by PAL, since I've just received a tweet about this 3 minutes ago, but it covers Singapore, Jakarta, Bangkok and Vietnam.

     Happy travel planning!

ETA:  Yup, I've done my math and this is in fact a good deal.

Thoughts: Philippine Airlines, Asia's First, is Up for Sale!

For some weird reasons, the blog post I made yesterday was not saved.  That is totally weird!  I've even read the post I made online after I published it.

Anyway, I will try to recreate the post I made, so here it goes:

For the past year, the rumor mills have been busy spreading word that Philippine Airlines, Asia's First, is up for sale.  Apparently, PLDT's Manny Pangilinan is keen on acquiring the Lucio Tan-led PAL.  Well, as it turns out, even Ramon Ang of San Miguel is in talks for a possible purchase. And, just yesterday, Lucio Tan confirmed that PAL is up for sale.  You can read the news article here: http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/business/01/22/12/lucio-tan-confirms-pal-sale
Ever since it was rumored that talks were being held for the sale of PAL, I am one of those who believe the same to have a ring of truth to it.  After all, PAL just had a mass lay-off of its employees as it tried to have its services, like catering, etc., outsourced.  And, not to mention the newest ruling on the PALEA case.  Really, it was a no-brainer for PAL to smooth out all the rough edges before buyers seriously take interest in PAL.  I mean, really, who would want to buy a business with many legal problems?  In the end, the buyer may not be willing to be embroiled in the numerous labor case involving PAL and its employees, past or present.  Well, the buyer may end up paying for all those multi-million legal claims if it is not careful.
Whatever may happen to PAL, I am quite excited about it.  Maybe, a change of management can propel PAL back into its glory days.

Thoughts: I won a Katy Perry Ticket from @FlyPAL's iLoveMyPAL Twitter Promo

Philippine Airlines had a fun Twitter game yesterday.  As prize, they gave out 100 silver tickets for Katy Perry's concert at SM Mall of Asia tomorrow. I know, right?  That's a great prize.

The rules were simple.  Only one tweet per person per hour, from 13:00 to 22:00 (last tweet at 22:59) will qualify.  2 or more tweets per hour will disqualify your entries.

  • Mention @flyPAL
  • Complete the sentence
"I love My PAL because ___ (Answer the question "Why do you love Philippine Airlines?"
  • Include the following hashtags
    #iLovePAL #PALgivesKatPerryTix

I've been seeing the game on my timeline since yesterday after lunch.  But I was really not interested with it as I was still at work and I could not be bothered to read the mechanics and join.  When I got home,  I was surprised to see the game still on-going.  So, almost 2 hours before the end of the hourly game, I joined; both entries I made were almost at the close of the voting hours.  I won on the last voting hour, my entry just made it through.  Then, I forgot all about it, not even knowing I won.  Apparently, the winners for the last voting hour was announced around 3:00 am or something. So, I was really surprised to know that I won!  I won!  Me, who never really wins at raffles!  Imagine that!

Well, my dilemma now is this.  I don't even like Katy Perry and I don't like going to concerts.  But my  mother does.  I joined thinking if I win, I'd give her the ticket.  But she can't go on her own, you know.  So I have to buy a silver ticket which is around Php 1500 plus VAT and service charge (almost 1700).  There goes away my money.  Haha! [ETA: I bought 2 more silver tickets]

Anyway, whether I am a fan of Katy Perry is immaterial.  It won't take away the fact that I've won and that I'm so happy to have won!  Thanks, @FlyPAL!  I hope your contests will continue to have simple, no-fuss rules!  Thanks again!

Oh, my winning entry is this: I love My PAL @flyPAL because PAL'S FAs are cute and they serve you w/a smile! #iLovePAL #PALgivesKatyPerryTix

     Yay!

Seat Sale: PAL's Fly Pilipinas Promo

Remember PAL's Fly Asia promo which started last week?  Then, you'd be happy to know that there's a new promo, this time, for a tour of the wonderful Philippine islands!  And that's PAL's Fly Pilipinas promo.

I am quite excited about this one.  After all, hopping from one island to another in the Philippines is tiring and costly, too.  But with PAL's Fly Asia promo, I just hope we could all get a good bargain to roam the Philippines.

But then again, I'm having second thoughts about this promo.  After all, the Php 7,070.00 for Fiesta class refers only to the FARE, and does not include taxes and surcharges such as: Aviation Security Fee, Ticketing Service Charge and VAT for every ticket redeemed. Of course, you still have to pay for the terminal fee of Php 200.00.

Philippine Airlines Promo: 12 Cities. 7 Weeks. Unlimited Travel. Only with FLY ASIA PASS!

N.B. Updated with FAQs from the PAL website.

I am quite baffled by this one, but it is a good deal if you're planning to visit all these countries listed here.  You'll just have to pay USD 270 for your FLY ASIA PASS and exchange them for tickets within two weeks.  The catch?  It is not inclusive of taxes and surcharges and you must complete your travel within seven weeks from day of first departure.  Travelling period is from 15 August to 30 December 2011 (outbound) and up to 10 December 2011 for inbound flights.  So, if you're intending to fly to Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong and Taiwan, your itinerary and fares will look like this:

Philippine Airline's Newest Route - Delhi, India

Starting 27 March 2011, Philippine Airlines will start flights from Manila to Delhi, India. (Indira Gandhi International Airport).  That's very exciting, at least for me.  I have always wanted to go to India, and I was very tempted last year to book tickets with Air Asia for an Indian adventure this year.  However, the prospect of going to Kuala Lumpur first seemed a daunting task for me.  Good thing I didn't buy because Philippine Airlines will now have flights direct to Delhi.  There are also flights to Delhi from Manila via Bangkok, Thailand.  Yay!  On the downside, I think it's going to more expensive.  However, for its maiden voyage and perhaps for the first few months, Philippine Airlines is likely to have a seat sale for their newest route.  I'm seriously contemplating on buying tickets to Delhi if that ever happens.

Here is the full details of PAL's Delhi route from PAL's website:

Delhi, India Effective 27 March 2011, PAL shall operate between Manila and Delhi six times a week.

Flight PR758 (non-stop flight) is departing Manila every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 9:10 p.m and arriving in Delhi (Indira Gandhi International Airport) at 01:10 a.m. (Delhi time). The return service, PR 759, departs Delhi at 3:00 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and arrives back in Manila at 12:00 noon (Manila time)
While flight PR752 (via Bangkok) is departing Manila every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6:45 p.m and arriving in Delhi at 01:10 a.m. (Delhi time). The return service, PR 753, departs Delhi at 2:45 p.m. every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and arrives back in Manila at 1:50 p.m. (Manila time).

Delhi, the capital of India, is said to be one of the oldest existing cities in the world and is estimated to be over 5,000 years old.

The cosmopolitan city of Delhi is also known as one of the fastest growing cities in the world.

The city includes many historic monuments like the Jantar Mantar, an observatory built in the early 18th century which was used to compile astronomical tables, predict the times and movements of the solar system. Another tourist spot would be the Lodhi Gardens, a park spread over 90 acres which contains architectural works from the 15th and 16th centuries.   It is also a haven for yoga enthusiasts and Delhiites who love their morning walks.

Other must see are the Red Fort; one of Delhi’s top tourist sights, Humayun’s Tomb which is included in the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage Sites and Jama Masjid; the largest mosque in India.

Taj Majal, one of the most fabulous monuments in the world is 200 kms. from Delhi.
